Morning frost

This morning I braved the morning frost and went for a walk around Lake Ginninderra. It’s still Autumn and the weather has become decidedly cold as Canberra readies itself for Winter.

I was awake at about 4 am and laid in bed for a while enjoying a cup of coffee and reading blogs waiting for the sun to ‘rise’.

I assume this piece of greenery fell off the back of a truck. I had to wait a while while cars and trucks whizzed by. I needed to get close and low to the road to shoot this.

The mist wasn’t that thick this morning but once it cleared we had another beautiful Canberra day.

I tried to capture the frost on the grass and shot many photographs but none of them were as good as the frost I found on this bridge railing on Lake Ginninderra. It was quite thick.

I know it’s not the most tasteful thing, but the little icicles forming on the bird faeces intrigued me.

Oh to be one of those cockatoos warming myself in the sun high in a tree.

Walking in the bracing cold of the morning is quite enjoyable despite my well known dislike for the cold and dry weather of Canberra. My discomfort is compensated by the beautiful surroundings in which I live. Canberra has bright beautiful blue skies in Autumn and Winter. Living near a body of water also means mist in the dawn light and birds in abundance.

The light of the morning illuminates the water, grass and trees in magnificent ways. The autumnal colours are bright and distinct and go along with the evergreen of the leaves of the eucalyptus trees.
