The last day of Winter around Lake Ginninderra

Today is the last day of Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. Tomorrow it will be Spring, yet the forecast still has Canberra experiencing some subzero mornings. No matter, it will be Spring and we can look forward to a gradual warming in the nights and mornings. Like yesterday, the weather today was gorgeous. I woke to fog over the lake but it didn’t take too long to clear and reveal and bright sunny day. It was difficult not to leap out and go for a walk around Lake Ginninderra. First things first though I needed a good breakfast. Check out my Spence Butchery bacon and eggs.

If it had been clear in the morning I was hoping to get out before the glaring sun got to high in the sky. I shot through a circular polariser hoping to cut through a lot of the glare. The problem was losing a stop or two of light and some pronounced vignetting when shooting open from F/2.8 to F/3.5 and at a focal distance of 24 mm. I noticed while I was walking there were lots of people out with their cameras. Some were shooting the lake and the local flora and fauna. Some were using the backdrop of the lake to shoot their girl friends. There were all sorts of cameras too. Mostly DSLRs, some mirrorless and a few smartphone photographers. Most of the people with cameras were Oriental so I fitted in nicely 😉 I was intrigued to see a young Chinese couple posing on a bridge near the skate park. He was shooting her and he was using a new Sony α7 full frame mirrorless camera. He had a pretty fancy lens, it didn’t look like a Sony lens, he was using an adapter and I think using a prime lens.

It’s the last day of winter and hopefully the trees will grow leaves soon

Hopefully in the next few weeks the deciduous trees will develop buds and soon be laden with leaves. I’ve lived in Canberra now for seven years and I still find the winter trees a sight to stop and ponder. I’m not a fan of winter but the trees certainly make me stop and think.
